I have a HR service portal. I have a widget with "quick links" , a list of shortcuts stored by the user. These links come from a sharepoint and the contents are stored into "u_quicklinks" table . The table has two fields, 1)date created 2) URL.
I need to create a widget with the list of URL's from this table in the portal. Once the user clicks, it takes the user to the external pages and few sharepoint pages as well.
I was able to create a "simple list widget" and got the URL's in the widget. But when i click, its not redirecting to any page.
To test it, i used simple webpages like google, facebook etc. Nothing happens when I click the links. Is it the right way or should i modify this somewhere?

Have you tried using the out of box widgets in Content Delivery for the employee service center? The 'Quick Links (CD)' widget is designed to redirect to other URLs, and it's imaged based, so you could add a logo/icon for each quick link. There is also a 'Information Links (CD)' widget that is simply a list of URL links. You may need to activate the Content Delivery plugin, but there are several very useful widgets already there that can be used in portal.
