Hey all.. the last few months have been innodated with friends out there looking to enhance their Software Asset Management program and why I write. As we all know Servicenow Discovery does a pretty nice job in discovering software on host systems and feeds our great SAM modules so you can stay current with compliance and cost, among many other things of course.
Through that discovery, we are looking for software that was deployed with a 'standard' installation method meaning it was deployed with an MSI Installer on Windows, RPM in the Linux world, or PkgAdd in the Unix Realm (commands vary per OS in your installed software probes). But how do we discover software that was deployed in a non-standard method? File-Based Discovery to your service!
Now while it has been out for a bit, (again) we are seeing a lot more folks out there getting into the Software asset management space and this is a really handy method to gather those unique installations. So to maybe save some repetitive conversations my teammate
