Aging concept in Service Now Discovery

Hello Experts ,

Need to understand how aging mechanism works in SNOW Discovery . If suppose I have picked some scheduled Discovery jobs and noticed few servers used to discover earlier but in current Discovery run it stopped due to no of prerequisite constraints .

Will those servers marked as deleted or set to retired after certain interval .

If yes , what will happen to its relationship , Software Instance CI's that are running on the servers .They will retired as well

Also how can we confirmed servers are scanning successful as per their scanning cycle like do we have something last scanned date attribute ?

If servers are retired how will it change the status for other CI's like running software instances that are running on top of it .

Kindly advise .

Thank you

Jha

Hi,

ServiceNow has a deletion strategy defined for such CIs which are no longer discovered in the previous schedules and the necessary action can be defined (usually ServiceNow do not delete these records as the updates could have stopped due to multiple reasons)-

Read here - https://support.servicenow.com/kb?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0993288

Also, ServiceNow does have an attribute 'Last Discovered' which can be used to either create a report or create a task if the CI hasn't been updated in X time.

Hope the information helps. Happy to answer if you have further questions.

Have you turned on the CMDB Dashboard jobs, and reviewed their results yet?
