Can I delete software discovery models?

Hello, we have ton of software discovery models that are no longer useful. We don't want to create any Software models for something that is no longer in our environment. We are trying to get rid off these discovery models. Can I simply delete them? Will they discover back again? Please give me some more insight into removal process. Thanks!

Hi Paul,

When it comes to models you often will like to have a rich set of possible "Models". There's no a harm around keeping these. In fact, some companies actually sell an entire list of "Models" to have a rich / normalized CMDB.

You may want to think again if there's any real downsides behind keeping those "old" models vs keeping those in there in case the related software appears again in your environment.

Thanks,

Berny

You can add condition in your acl to prevent deletion of software models based on your requirement.

Thanks for the reply Berny. Do you know if I can stop discovering these models?

Hi Paul, an option that you have is to build a on before business rule that halts (aborts) an update if it belongs to a model you're not interested in discovering.

I hope this helps! 🙂
