CMDB Remediation Tasks and Auto-Assignment

We are utilizing Discovery to populate a portion of our CMDB.  During the Discovery process, Stale CI Remediation Tasks and Duplicate Remediation Tasks are being created.  My question is two-fold:

1. How are these tasks being created?

  • I should note that there are two different Stale CI Remediation Task messages: "The CI was not updated in 30 Days" and "Cannot find CI from cloud provider's API".

2. How can I define an assignment for these tasks upon creation?

  • Currently, these tasks are being created with no assignment group or assigned to individual which easily allows them to fall into the abyss.

My thanks in advance for your time and I hope you and yours are healthy and safe.

The tasks get created by two ways, 1. Discovery source sends data in via the IRE, 2. The cmdb health metrics run.. To do assignments you can follow the same way you would handle them via incident. You could create using the "Assignment rules module".

Take a look under "Health Preference" module and on the right side of the page look at "Health Metrics". Look under the staleness option.

Excellent!  I've verified that the Staleness metric was active, and the Create Task option was active.  I've added an Assignment Group to verify.

I looked at the Duplicate metric and did not see a similar option for Create Task.  Any thoughts on how that task may be getting created?

Thanks!

Thanks, Patrick.  I did review this documentation earlier and while it does appear to detail what the de-duplication task is and why it's created, I'm not seeing any information regarding how the task is created or how assignments would be automatically set.  Perhaps I'm overlooking it.
