Discover Avaya devices (not phones) using SNMP?

I am trying use SNMP to Discover Avaya devices such as Communication Manager, Session Manager, Call Management System... running on linux devices, and having difficulty. Is anybody doing this successfully?
I am able to log into an admin GUI on an Avaya device and set up an SNMPv2c community string and configure it to allow my MID server IP address. I also have the community string in my ServiceNow credentials area. But the credential test fails when tested on the Avaya device. If I run Quick Discovery, it sees port 161 active, but the SNMP Classify probe times out. Other SNMP devices on the same subnet as Avaya device and using the same community string are discovered successfully.
I would really like to hear from someone who is doing this successfully. It seems like it should be basic SNMP setup for Discovery, especially when the Avaya admin GUI has a tab specifically for creating the SNMP community string and configuring which IP addresses to allow to connect.

You say you do the Credential Test and that fails? I'd start there. Can you download an SNMP client and use that against the Avaya device to verify that SNMP community string actually works on that device?

Thanks for the response. It does appear the community string is not working. We have an SNMP Monitoring tool (Solarwinds/Orion) and it is also not able to connect using the community string.
But we are on the Avaya device's GUI, in the SNMP configuration tab, and configuring the connectivity as we are testing this live from ServiceNow (and Orion). So it *should* be working. That's why I'm stumped. I have to wonder if there's something different/special about Avaya I'm not aware of, so that's why I'm asking this question.
