Hello Everyone,

I have started learning Service Now Discovery from the basics.Although I have already worked on BMC Discovery.I have created my own PDI as well.

Could someone help me to understand is it possible to do hand-s on on devportal from Discovery perspective on SNOW.

Please also add your comments in order to understand this technology very well.

Hello -  I suggest setting up a little lab for yourself, either using machines you have access to or create a cloud lab (AWS, etc.) where you can spin up machines for a bit to use for testing.   setup our own MID server and connect it to your PDI and use it to discover your own lab environment...   Also, consider taking Discovery classes https://www.servicenow.com/services/training-and-certification/discovery.html

There is a lot to learn but setting up your own lab will help a lot.  Taking the 3 day Discovery Fundamentals class will jump start your learning a lot...

Hope this helps?

Thanks Dave for your response.Let me summarize my understanding as below.

1)First I need to create a virtual server in this case LAB using AWS resources called EC2 instance(virtualization concept)  . Since I have already created a Free Tier account on AWS long back.

2)Next step will be need to access SNOW portal from the created EC2 instance itself.

3)Then I need to enabled the discovery plugin and accordingly configured MID server on EC2 instance.

What will  be next steps of action. Also let me know If I missed anything in order to setup Discovery solution.

Hi -  Yes, you have the basic idea outlined.  This would get a lab setup with a MID on a VM (EC2 machine) and pointed at your PDI instance for testing.   Your lab then needs something to be 'discovered'... of course you can discovery the MID server (EC2) box itself, but that's kinda boring...  so you can spin up some other machines in the AWS lab to be discovered.  You'll have to work thru learning how to do that (setup EC2 boxes, various OS's, security rules on AWS, etc.) its a challenge -- but worth it if you are serious about learning how Discovery works and need a safe playground to experiment...

Does this help?

Thanks a lot Dave for help your help.

I will definitely serious about learning Discovery. I will keep you posted for further update.
