This may in fact be a *stupid* question, but a customer is asking it of me, and I do not want to base my response on only my own knowledge of Discovery.
The target for Discovery for this customer is GCP. They are claiming that they "read somewhere" that some discovery agents are available/required for discovery. I assured them that agents are not required, but they asked me to double-triple check.
I can find no reference to any discovery agent being required or available in any ServiceNow documentation. But I'm also aware that it's impossible to prove a negative. That is, the absence of any statement saying an agent is available/required is NOT the same thing as a positive statement say they are not - and I can't find any such statement either.
So - for the record - does anyone know of any Discovery agents that are available for any (virtual, in this case) objects in a domain (potential CI's)? Or conversely, and better, is anyone in any kind of an authoritative position willing to state that discovery agents are neither available nor required/recommended?
Thanks in advance.

Currently Service Now Discovery is Agentless.
Few weeks back I was in a meeting with Service Now and Agent Based discovery is in their Road Map- I am sure about it. Timeline is not clear but its there.
At this moment they have Agent client collector for monitoring.

Here is the documented procedure for GCP discovery. No agent necessary.
https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/paris-it-operations-management/page/product/service-mapping/reference/google-gcp-discovery-pattern.html
If this is a current customer, this should be something that they can test out in their sub production instance.
