Hello Community,
I am reaching out to your experience and guidance on this matter. I have done multiple ITOM implementation, but I have a scenario here that Discovery and Service Mapping cannot be implemented (internal reasons). Can I really emplement Event Management and give a real value.
The CMDB will be filled through 3rd party database.
Thanks,

Hi,
I usually dont like to do event management without discovery, service mapping. Because event management makes use of CMDB and correlate CI with alerts and create incident etc.
One example: We have remediation workflow which event management can make use of. They depend on perfect CMDB. Lets say you want to restart a server when you get a event from monitoring tool and you want to do it automatically using servicenow. then here you need IP address of the server and other details. If you have discovery then this information is upto date and you can use it anytime you want.
If you trust your CMDB then you can implement event management. Also event management creates a relation with business service, technical service as well and this depends on your perfect cmdb.
Thanks,
Ashutosh

Hi
You can implement Event Management if there are CIs in CMDB for which events are going to be generated.
If in CMDB there are relations between CIs created then you can also see alerts in Dependency Views of that CI.
Discovery and Service Mapping are not prerequisite for Event Management. Having those will provide more value to your Event Management implementation.
Hope this helps.
