Manual Service Mapping without the Service Mapping plugins or Discovery Set-up

Hello Community,

We have a requirement regarding the Manual Service Mapping but without the use of Discovery setup or Service Mapping plugins.

Can you please suggest the correct approach / procedure for manually doing Service Mapping and approach for updating the same Service Map in future.

We want to map very limited number of CIs (particularly from the Software Class) in the Service Map. Currently, we have tried with one approach of using the Service CI (cmdb_ci_service) and convering into Application Service (cmdb_ci_service_auto) by using the 'Covert to Application Services' UI action i.e. (in order to view the Service Map) and then assigning the relation between that perticular Service CIs and Software CI but due to this approach, we have to convert one Service CI into Application Service and which cannot be reversed in the future and also, we do not want to use direct Application Service approach. Can you please suggest any other ideal alternative approach for doing the manual Service Mapping and your thoughts on the current approach. It could be great help.

Also, please provide the additional inputs / details about the challenges in future with this approach of manual Service Map.

Appreciating your time for reading.

Thanks.

Regards,
Rutvik.

if things are not done the way it suppose to be - Then there will be many limitation as you stated above.

What kind of DEPTH in MAP you are looking for- Upto what level?

Hello Rahul,

Thanks for the response. I do agree with you. However, we are currently thinking to build the Service Map for very limited number of CIs that are less than 1000 and also thinking to create the different maps and hence, each map will not contain more than 50-75 CIs. Hence, we are thinking to doing it manually as we are dealing with the less amount of data. Can you please provide your input on this and any additional information on the approach.

Thanks and Regards,
Rutvik.

What benefit do you see yourself getting from doing this manually? Your biggest challenge will be trying to update and maintain each map while software and infrastructure is constantly changing.
