However, I would never introduce a pure asset into the CMDB. Assets are kept and tracked in the AMDB. A mistake I have seen with many consultants is their focus on CMDB for everything.
Depending on the information need I would not hesitate to extend a class in AMDB, and it is not a bad practice, it just have to be done with a purpose.
