Hello everyone,
I'm implementing the Change Management area and was wondering if it was best practice to edit the OOTB change workflows or copy the OOTB workflows and edit that copy?
Also, how do I define what workflow a change type uses?

Hi,
It is not best practice to change the OOB Change Workflows Instead you should copy the OOB Workflows and Make changes to it.
Please follow below screenshots:-
Step 1:- open the OOB Chage work flow in workflow editor and choose copy from context menu.
Step 2:- Give a name to your change workflow:-
Step 3:- Set Inactive to make inactive the OOB Change Workflow.
Step 4:- Open You customized Workflow in workflow editor and set your trigger condtions in properties.
Step 5:- Publish your Customized Change workflow and make it active.
If i was able to solve your query, please mark my answer correct and helpful.
Thanks & Regards

it is recommended to create a copy of OOTB functionality and modify that copy as required. In the Workflow condition you will have to specify the Change type condition as a triggering condition.
Please mark this correct & helpful if it answered your question.
Thanks & Regards,
