Question on Consumable

Request your help to find a solution to provision consumables in our department.

One of our division has stock room of more than 500+ Consumable models. Most of the time, team from the field services need to check out the consumables from this stock mostly in bulk quantity. I can see at least 10+ people in que (morning time) to collect the consumables from this stock for their field work. Currently they are submitting request in paper form, and the stock room person collects items put it in bin and hand over to the technician. We are planning to automate this process using our AM module. Requirement is technician should able to select Item, input the quantity ,unit of Measure, Charge Back details etc   and submit the request and the fulfilling team ( Inventory) able to receive the request, consume the items to requester with right quantity. Any guidance on the approach appreciated.      

So far added, all the consumables models and published thru Catalog. Procurement plugin enabled. User can order items and it creates Task where fulfiller can use 'Source Request'. But the problem here is the item requested should directly assigned to requester instead of going from one stock to another stock and following all the procurement steps until receive.

Was trying to add 'consume' (similar to Transfer Order/Purchase Order) at the source request level , but as the code is not exposed am unsuccessful. ($Source_request)

Then created a UI page with angular js..and reference to alm_consumable where user can select the Item and request for it.

This got several limitation too.

If any one already got any solution which you applied to your organization   on how to handle consumable's   or if any one   can provide on high level what best we can do here, will be of great help.

Pleasure to "meet" you. Have you considered implementing Asset Management to fulfill this need? I believe this would be most helpful to solve your issue at hand.

There is a Consumable section in the Asset Management module where you can track the amounts of the inventory and click Consume and apply the amount consumed and apply it to a person or asset.   It will also track the expenses from the Procurement plug-in for each consumable model applied.

The difficulty in answering your question is in knowing what applications you have active in your current deployment of ServiceNow.   There is a mechanism for this Out of the Cloud in our Field Services Application. When a dispatcher assigns an engineer to a Work Order, the dispatcher is able to "source" asset requirements to the engineer.   This takes place, as you touched on, via a Transfer Order between the serving stock room and a "virtual" stockroom created for the user.   Nothing is consumed, it is merely transferred. As the engineer does his/her work to fulfill the work order, he/she is able to create an asset usage record to install that item at a customer site.   For consumables, this effectively consumes it from stock, for a tracked asset, this updates the location and assignment. If you are not utilizing ServiceNow Field Services, I suggest you chat with your ServiceNow Account Executive to see about doing so.   Based on the limited information you've provided, I believe it may solve your issue as well as simplify your work-stream.
