We would like to add shared folders/directories to our CMDB as CI's, and I'm not sure how they should be classified. I don't see very much on the WIKI or the forum about this topic, so I wanted to ask for ideas or suggestions. Is anyone doing this now, and if so what sort of classification parameters are you using?
Thanks for the help,
Jason

We aren't currently doing this, but its a good idea considering the following:
- Changes to the shared folders and directories are controlled via change
- Incidents occur frequently that break access to the shared drives/folders
- Access is given to these resources as part of our onboarding / offboarding.
Unfortunately our CMDB culture isn't very mature so it wouldn't much much difference if I did this. But if I did, I would simply create them as a separate class of CI.
I'm sure you knew this already, but the CI table can be extended much like the Task table can.

Yeah that's what we were thinking that we would end up doing. I was just looking for ideas. I was actually working on a catalog item to request access to folders, and I wanted my "What folder do do you need access to" variable to display CI's. My motive for adding them is a little different that what your reasons, but everything you said is also true. There's really no reason to not have them in the CMDB.... Thanks for the response!
