Why we need to use meta field in catalog item  and give identifier name when catalog not visible in global search in portal.

Hi,

In simple words it to make relative search to be quick & fetch results in quickly.

There is an evaluation/sorting process for fetching results when a search is made from Global search whcih goes a below.

You may refer link for a check.

Also, it is not mandatory for you to specify meta. Even if the catalog item does not have meta search will work but if you will to have more specific results you need to use Meta tags.

In short, Meta search gets results from more generic to be more specific.

Thanks for the replay and i have a one query why few of the catalog item not visible if we give a Keyword in global search in portal and if we give full name it will visible.

Please see below catalog item name

Apple_19.2_x64_SU

Apple_30.3_64_SU

Apple_19.hx6_SU

Apple_11.2_x6_SU

Apple_9.2_x64_SU

Apple_19_x64_SU

There is total 6 catalogs when we search with keyword ''Apple'' only 4 catalog item visible remaining 2 not visible after we gave keyword in Meta field those 2 catalog also visible.

My question is why those two catalogs not visible when we give a keyword and why rest of them visible.

I am not totally sure but I guess that has something to do with Search Sources available. Try giving it a check.
