Building a consolidated employee self service experience for Mobile

Mobile App Academy is a bi-weekly live building series focused on managing and building mobile apps in real time. We have product experts demonstrate concepts, provide guidance, and answer your questions in a live setting.

Want to join us live?
Register for the Zoom webinar and join us at 10:00 AM PT. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Today David Ha, Senior Product Manager, gets started by explaining how you can migrate your employee self-service experience into Now Mobile, before transitioning into building a consolidated mobile view for your multiple portal experiences (ITSM vs HR). For this session we will leverage the OOTB Now Mobile app (IT Catalogs, etc) and the Now Mobile app for HR Service Delivery (HR tasks, etc)

As a prerequisite, we recommend watching  Getting Started with Now Mobile in Paris.

Q: Will Now Mobile be able to convert any Service Catalog Form/Variable to render on the Mobile App or are there any limitations or need to have to reformat Catalog request forms?
A: Currently Now mobile is referencing a web version of catalog form. The reason why they aren’t fully native is because native can’t render variables sets and support client scripts.

Q: Is there any security in mobile that only allows HR to see the cases mobile is used by both HR and IT?
A: Mobile accessibility is govern via HR roles, business rules, and ACLs.

Q: Can the same mobile app have both IT and HR portal items and widgets or does it need to be 2 different apps and how easy or hard to switch between IT and HR app landing pages?
A: Mobile can reference both IT and HR on a single app. It depends how you want to implement. For example, you can have two nav functions each pointing to /sp or /hr.

Q: Do you have any Video or documentation on Running SN Mobile with Azure InTune Mobile Device Management?
A: See our previous session on Device Security and Policy Enforcement. Be sure to check the timestamps in the description.

Q: Can we create a barcode scanning capability without having to associate a record: my understanding as of today is barcode scanning requires an associated field.
A: Scan is an action item which performs a write back. Unfortunately, it can’t pass the value to a nav function. For more information on QR scanning, we do have a previous academy on the subject.
