Zurich Employee Center - Automatically Open Now Assist / Enhanced Virtual Agent Chat on Page Load

Hello ServiceNow Community,

I'm working in a Zurich instance using Employee Center (ESC) with Now Assist / Enhanced Virtual Agent.

Currently, users see the Now Assist launcher (chat bubble) in the bottom-right corner of the Employee Center homepage, but they must manually click it to open the chat window.

I'd like the chat panel to automatically open by default whenever a user visits the Employee Center (or at least on the homepage), while still allowing users to minimize or close it afterward.

Environment

  • Release: Zurich
  • Portal: Employee Center (ESC)
  • Chat: Now Assist / Enhanced Virtual Agent
  • Using the Service Portal Agent Chat Configuration (Now Assist in VA Chat Config)

What I've looked at

  • Employee Center Theme
  • Service Portal Agent Chat Configuration
  • Now Assist in VA Chat Config
  • Virtual Agent configuration

I haven't found any out-of-the-box setting such as:

  • Open chat by default
  • Auto-launch chat
  • Expanded on page load

Questions

  1. Is there a supported out-of-the-box way in Zurich to automatically open the Now Assist/Enhanced Virtual Agent panel when Employee Center loads?
  2. If not, what is the recommended and upgrade-safe approach?
  3. Has anyone implemented this using the Service Portal Agent Chat Configuration, a client script, UI Builder, or another supported customization?

Any examples, documentation, or best practices would be greatly appreciated.
