Follow Filters for Business Unit and Departments

Our reporting team is looking to be able to leverage filters on dashboards within PA where a user can select a business unit in one filter and then in another, select multiple departments to which the Business Unit is attached to. This would then update other DV widgets which include task sla's, open change requests, open incidents, etc. 

 

It looks like we'd be wanting to look at users in the Assigned to field that are assigned to departments which link back up to the business units.

 

We keep getting the error as shown in the screenshots that say "1 filter(s) unable to be followed." so I feel like I am missing something easy when it comes to the configuration of these dashboard filters to get this to work.

 

Our Business Unit table has a related list to the department record with the department record having the reference back to the Business unit.

 

Any ideas on what I can configure or look at within the table(s) to help meet the requirements to happen here?
