Guidance on Report Creation to track cumulative incident state over a month

I have a request to create a report to track the state of incidents day to day cumulatively for a 30 day span for a specific team.  The requester has indicated that they want a histogram type of report for this, but I am unsure if that is the best type of report for this use case.  A previous report has been set up that is a Column time series report - that one tracks and groups tickets based on the date they were opened, and the state of the incidents for that day at the time the report is viewed.

Now the ask appears to be a compounding cumulative view.

September 1, 3 tickets are opened, at the end of the day, 2 are resolved, 1 is open.

September 2, 5 tickets were opened, added to the 3 previous, for a total of 8 tickets in September.  End of the day, 5 total are resolved (2 from the day before 1 on 9/2), 1 is work in progress, 2 are open.

September 3, 1 ticket is opened.  Total of 9 tickets.  At the end of the day, 6 are resolved, 1 is open, 2 are work in progress.

And so on each day, with the number compounding each day, so the numbered opened for the day is added to the sum of the previous day.  But each date being a snapshot of the existing tickets opened since the start of the month up to that point.

I have yet to find a straight forward way to create such a report, or a reporting type that would contain all of the information being asked.  Has anyone else done something like this before?
