How can I export a list report to Excel and remove the HTML script that comes with it in descriptions and various fields?

I am exporting the data from a list report to a CSV or .xlsx file. Either way, it exports and has a bunch of HTML formatting in various fields of the excel export. Is there a way to get rid of the HTML formatting or export it without the formatting?
