How can the current date and/or day of the week be used in reporting?

Look into Trend Reports and see if that achieves what you're looking for.

What I am trying to do is create a widget showing the potential changes for our upcoming CAB meeting on Wednesdays.  The CAB meeting looks at certain changes which are scheduled between that day and the following Wednesday.  The day of the week decides what data to look at. 

For example, I would want to use the Trend function where if the current day is '4' (Thursday) then it looks at certain data, as opposed to if the day is '2' (Tuesday).

This would be for a widget on a dashboard.
