How are newly created project tasks moved to a specific phase or under a summary task of a project plan/WBS? They show up at the bottom of the Gantt chart regardless of their relationships to other tasks or their start/end dates. Ran into this during a demo yesterday, and took an action item to resolve as a follow-up.

Hi Dale,
I don't think your question has anything to do with Performance Analytics, but you might want to read this thread as I think it solves your problem: Re: WBS in Project Management

Here's some instructions from my how-to that include how to place or move tasks under other tasks. If you're in Fuji, you can't do this in Project Workbench I believe. Hope this helps. Sorry that this removes the proper formatting.
_____
- Option A: Using the 'Project Tasks' tab:
- Navigate to the 'Project Tasks' tab near the bottom of the Project screen, click on the 'New' button to create a new task.
- Create tasks:
- For a fixed-date project / top-down planning, you will create what will be a 'header' task for the first phase (e.g., the 'Discovery' phase).
- For 'Time constraint', select 'Start on a Specific Date'.
- For 'Planned start date', select a date for the beginning of the first phase.
- For 'Planned end date', select a date for the end of the first phase.
- For bottom-up planning / non-fixed-date project, you can use 'Start ASAP' or fixed dates or duration.
- Enter a simple Short Description (for this task you will describe it as a header task).
- Leave the 'State' as 'Pending' for now.
- Click the 'Submit' button.
- Create subtasks:
- Click on the right-facing triangle next to the first project task number. That will expand any existing subtasks, and will allow you to create subtasks.
- For a fixed-date project / top-down planning, you will create what will be a 'header' task for the first phase (e.g., the 'Discovery' phase).
- Click on the 'New' button under that task.
- Fill out task information.
- Click the 'Submit' button.
- Repeat as needed.
- Option B: Using the GANTT Chart:
- Click on the 'Gantt Chart' link in the 'Related Links' section just above the 'Project Tasks' tab.
- Create tasks:
- Click in the 'Add Task' text box.
- Type in the name of the task.
- Click 'Enter' on your keyboard.
The task will appear below the header task.
- Edit / enter a task's details:
- Double-click on a task's line.
A project task window will pop up.
- Enter dates, description, etc for the task.
- Click the 'Update' button.
- To make a task a subtask:
- Single-click & hold on a task name.
- Drag and 'place' the task on another task. This will place the moved task below that task you placed it on. You will receive a small confirmation window — click the 'OK' button.
- To create dependencies
- Single-click & hold on a task line.
- Note: Make sure the arrows are vertical when clicking on the task line. If the arrows are horizontal , it will adjust the task dates instead.
- Drag the line to another line, release your mouse click.
- You will receive a 'Confirm action' window. Click the 'OK' button.
- Single-click & hold on a task line.
- To edit a relationship:
- Double-click the connector line between tasks.
A 'Planned Task Relationship' dialog box will appear.
- Change the predecessor and successor information as needed, and build in lag time if needed.
Note: When a Lag value exists, ServiceNow recalculates the critical path accordingly.
