Platform Analytics is the newer out-of-the-box reporting and analytics capability in ServiceNow. It provides modern dashboards, visualizations, and reporting features directly within the platform.
In contrast, Performance Analytics is a separate licensed capability (SKU) that extends reporting by capturing historical data snapshots and performing calculations over time. This enables trend analysis, KPI tracking, forecasting, and other advanced analytics that are not available through standard reporting alone.
1. Performance Analytics
Performance Analytics (PA) is a powerful KPI monitoring and process optimization solution designed to measure performance over time and support data-driven decision-making.
- Primary Objective: Identify trends, forecast outcomes, and evaluate progress against predefined goals.
- How It Works: PA captures periodic snapshots of data records and stores them as indicators, enabling historical analysis and trend tracking.
- Ideal Use Cases: Continuous service improvement initiatives, SLA monitoring, target setting, long-term performance measurement, and historical reporting.
2. Platform Analytics
Platform Analytics is ServiceNow’s modern analytics workspace that brings reporting, KPI tracking, and experience analytics together in a unified environment within the Next Experience.
- Primary Objective: Provide a centralized view of organizational data through a single analytics interface.
- How It Works: It offers an intuitive drag-and-drop dashboard experience, combining standard reports, Performance Analytics indicators, and user experience metrics. Unified filters allow users to analyze data from multiple sources simultaneously.
- Ideal Use Cases: Delivering streamlined dashboards for business users and executives, consolidating analytics across the platform, and replacing the traditional Core UI reporting experience with a more modern and user-friendly solution.
