Links: Video interviewDeloitte survey | Maturity imperative/cloud costs

I saw this ITAM survey from Deloitte a few months ago and it intrigued me that the biggest ITAM challenges floating to the top were related to the cloud. So, when I had an opportunity to put together a webinar about achieving maturity in the cloud, one of the first things I thought about was interviewing someone from Deloitte. My expectation at the time was that I would talk to someone whom I’d worked with on another webinar and get their take on how the survey findings related to their customers. What I didn’t expect, was to be able to talk to the two people from Deloitte’s Netherlands office, Diederik Der Sijpe, and Hans Vandewijer, who put together the survey and deciphered the data to come up with insights and opportunities. I was grateful to be able to talk with them, gain additional insights, plus enjoy a laugh or two.

Since the webinar date was fast approaching and our calendars didn’t match up, I was only going to have one meeting with Diederik and Hans—the actual interview. Usually, for a webinar discussion like this, I would have met with them once or twice before the interview. Diederik and Hans were very engaging and there was plenty of other questions and answers that didn’t make the cut in our short 10-minute video.

For a quick reference, I’ve provided a short synopsis of the following questions and topics that did make the cut:

  • Can you tell us more about the survey? | Global scope of the survey - 2500 professionals world-wide across several industries
  • How much are ITAM needs shifting and why? |Digital transformation, new tech, post-pandemic work, and spirit
  • What are the take-aways about moving resources to the cloud? |Grows out of the business and can be driven by FinOps teams
  • What are some of the most interesting insights uncovered in the survey? | Cloud complexity, vendor relationships becoming a partnership, and establishing ITAM as a self-funded initiative
  • Does the bar keep moving on maturity and what do we need to get there? | Maturity bar is moving, but slowly because ITAM organizations have to expand their skills beyond software asset management
  • What could accelerate the maturity for more organizations to achieve an optimized state? |Shift from data gathering to becoming an advisor and even higher to strategic decisions and always want to grow and mature, need advisors (like Deloitte) and become advisors, sit in on the important meetings
  • What are three things Deloitte can do to help organizations mature faster in their ITAM practice? |Cloud FinOps projects, HAM - need to expand, data transparency - know what the data is saying, use a show back to business and evolve into a chargeback

I hope you enjoy our conversation as much as I did. Cheers!
