ServiceNow Software Asset Management on the Now Platform Washington D.C. release
ServiceNow® Software Asset Management offers a cohesive platform for technical teams to enhance risk management, optimize expenditures, and automate software lifecycle processes. This solution grants users the ability to exert precise control over their software and cloud expenditures, offering immediate insight into unlicensed installations, options for reclaiming licenses, and actionable software positions organized by publishers. This facilitates a proactive strategy for managing software and cloud costs, allowing for prompt decision-making or the automation of cost-saving measures to strengthen financial budgets.
In the Now Platform® Washington DC release, there are three key features for ServiceNow Software Asset Management:
- SaaS detection
- Software Asset Management maturity
- Exposure assessment
SaaS detection
Software asset managers often struggle to track applications that are being used by employees. In fact, many employees use applications that are unmanaged and could be licensed or unlicensed, potentially incurring additional costs that are not accounted for. SaaS detection helps alleviate this issue by enabling the discovery of SaaS applications via the Agent Client Collector (ACC) by tracking URLs being accessed from endpoint desktops. This feature helps SAM managers, admins, and users monitor application use so that only approved applications are utilized.
Software Asset Management maturity
Measure the maturity and improve the value return of your Software Asset Management application within your organization through the Success Portal dashboard. The Success Portal is a dashboard where users can set and track goals related to software asset management initiatives and related team objectives. You can visualize, identify, and report the capabilities or features you must focus on to use Software Asset Management efficiently.
Exposure assessment
Every organization needs to react quickly when there is a vulnerability that can lead to a security breach. When it comes to vulnerability response, it’s important to know where software is and what’s vulnerable in the software. This is where the combination of ServiceNow Software Asset Management and ServiceNow Vulnerability Response Management helps. An exposure assessment can be scheduled that leverages normalized software asset data, which in combination with vulnerability remediation workflows automates tasks from assessment through remediation.
These three key features from the Washington release empower organizations to optimize application usage, enhance software asset management maturity, and strengthen vulnerability response processes for improved overall security and cost efficiency.

Description |
Guided Experience: Bring Your Own License changes on Microsoft Azure |
Leverage the improved BYOL support to assess license compliance and implement necessary remediation measures for Microsoft Windows Server and SQL Server on Azure. This enables users to ascertain the license compliance on Azure in alignment with the most recent licensing rule changes by Microsoft. |
License usage view |
Carry out Software Asset Management implementation in a phase-wise manner by focusing only on a few software products that you want to manage initially. This approach enables users to reduce clutter on the License usage view and report only on the software products that are part of the current implementation phase. |
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) |
Manage core-based license positions for the RHEL product and the Red Hat Enterprise Linux for Virtual Datacenters product. With the core-based license metric, users can track accurate measurement of rights consumption at the host level. |
Google Cloud Platform (GCP) BYOL support |
Discover software and their license types on GCP by using the enhanced BYOL support for Microsoft Windows Server and SQL Server. With the added support for GCP, users can determine software compliance for Windows Server and SQL Server across a hybrid infrastructure that is on-premises and cloud. This enables users to take remediation action when the software is out of compliance. |
Enhanced software licensing |
Address product licensability at edition level by leveraging the weekly updates from the Software Asset Management Content Service Library. Users can define their own exception rules for non-licensable products and update them to the content service library. |
Enhanced license usage view |
Gain in-depth information of the factors leading to unlicensed software installations, software that has been ignored during reconciliation, and instances where a software installation requires user action. Receive guidance on the steps to take, acquire insights into the indicators contributing to Oracle options activation, and obtain a thorough understanding of reconciliation results. |
Guided setup |
Use guided setup for configuring Microsoft Windows Server and license management. The prerequisite checks along with a step by step walk through helps users successfully set up the Software Asset Management application. |
Product life cycles |
Increase coverage for reporting through the introduction of approximate life cycle dates. Transparent and comprehensive reporting allows for effective and reliable end-of-life (EOL) management of products. |
