A day in the life of a SAM Admin

Hello Team,

Our organization is implementing SAM PRO in the next few months and our APM team will be the SAM Admins for the tool.  I am trying to establish a set of daily, weekly, monthly functions for the team to identify training and workforce planning details for the coming new SAM administration roles.  Does anyone have a comprehensive set of SAM Admin tasks and functions for me to begin to plan from?

Hi there, I hope I am not too late to the party.  I have been handing over to a 3rd party support team and here are my topics I listed.

There is little training available apart from the on line SAM Pro Fundamentals course available through the SN site.

 

Before any implementation, ensure that the following setting is set to NO.  Check that the following value "Automatically create software models for all 'licensable' products"  Found in the Properties option of the Software Asset section of the main drop down is set to NO

 

  • Entitlement including Part number creation and entitlement without part numbers
  • Discovery Maps 
  • Software Models 
  • Discovery Models 
  • How maps and models link together 
  • Subscription Services - Updating entitlement (note our Dev team create the links to subscription services)
  • Applying Costs retrospectively
  • Reporting using Built in ELP report and how to create Ad Hoc reports 
  • Housekeeping Weekly/monthly review of software and discovery models ensuring that discovery models have software models assigned and software models have discovery maps assigned.
  • Housekeeping Monthly review of metered products
  • Housekeeping Monthly review and updating any products requiring a cost.
  • Housekeeping Monthly checking normalisation status of discovery models
  • Housekeeping Monthly review of normalisation, how to raise request to update content service
  • Housekeeping Monthly Instance Scan Reviews (Our SAM Team do this for SAM related scans and raise tickets where there are data issues affecting SAMP)
