Hi Experts,

Need suggestions on below:

1. When Onboarding / Offboarding an Asset, what should normally be created? A Service Request or a Change Request? Please suggest.

Onboarding -

1) CI is already procured and present in network. It is just need to be onboarded to ServiceNow? Please suggest a SR or an CR?

2) CI is not procured and will be purchased and added to organization network - Please suggest a SR or an CR in this Case?

3) Client is asking to create asset without CI? Is this a good practice? Please share your views?

Kindly assist!!

#1) Discovery or Service Graph would identify the CI typically.  Depending on the Product Model Category and Hardware Model, an asset may automatically be created dynamically

#2) Check out these two documents to better understand the process

#3) Yes, in a perfect world you have your Asset information including BOM with Models, SN, etc.  You load that into the system and when the CI is discovered, it has a relationship via a reference field.

Note, you need to have clear definition of what is and what is not an Asset as part of your process
