A Software Discovery Model is automatically created for each software installation that has the same discovered publisher, product and version. Software installations that have the same publisher, product and version are aggregated into the same Software Discovery Model.
For Jakarta and future releases, the Discovery Model is updated to include the normalized product, publisher and version values that are contained in the SN Central Software Library. All software installations (raw data) associated with the Discovery Model are simultaneously updated during the normalisation process.
This daily normalization process also identifies the following additional information that will be populated into the Software Discovery Model:
- Product Type (Licensable, Patch, Driver, Child)
- Platform of Discovered Software
- Language of Discovered Software
- Edition of Discovered Software
- Full Version Number
For Jakarta and future releases, Software Models provide the mechanism to map purchased software information (Software Entitlements) to the Software Discovery Model. This bridge is enabled by the use of a Discovery Map which is an attribute of the software model. The Discovery Map defines the publisher, product, version, edition, language and platform that link the Software Model and the Software Discovery Model. Software Entitlements are also associated with the Software Model and contains license metrics, purchased rights, allocations and agreement information which determines the number rights that can be installed within an organisation.
Hope this helps.
