Importing Software Models??

Can you direct me to where i can import software models. Entitlement imports are easy to find, but i cannot locate the same facility for sofware models. Thanks

Hi Chris,

There is no import method other than the standardized platform Import Set methodology. However, we have made model creation simple.  SW Models will be created automatically as part of the SW Entitlement Import.  When a match is made in our content library to a supplied Publisher Part Number, the SW Model is created via automation.  Similarly, if you manually enter an entitlement record, when you enter the Publisher Part Number when it is found in our content, a SW Model will be created or linked to if preexisting.  

Lastly, in Madrid and above, there are two SAM system properties which allow for auto-creation of software models as a final step of reconciliation execution.  If toggled on, when a Software Discovery Model is present in the system with no corresponding SW Model, it will be created.  The two settings allow for granular creation of licensable and non-licensable software models. Thanks Daniel. I was told (maybe in training?) that the software models had to be created before the entitlement import. You suggest that's not the case,  thanks for your help.

I am indeed suggesting that is not the case. In fact, building SW Models first is an inefficient and difficult approach which doesn't take advantage of the content library.

One caveat to what I wrote in my initial reply, auto-creation of sw models via the new functionality in Madrid may not be helpful to customers with a less mature SAM practice.  Enabling this feature while a practice is being formed may result in the creation of more sw models than are needed.

    When these software models gets created automatically/created manually, can we move these models from instance to other instance via xml?
