InTune SAM Issues

Hi All

 

We are implementing SAM in our ServiceNow Instance and our 3rd Party support very early on called out that there was a dependency on SCCM to support some functionality. We are retiring SCCM and have InTune and we were already aware in our team that some functionality had been lost i.e. Software Metering for one.

Our 3rd Party took this away and have now confirmed that elements of the SAM Module will not function with InTune integration i.e. Software Usage, Software Removal potentially more.

I am going to ask the same to them shortly but wanted to seek the forums view.

 

1. Does anyone know the lost functionality that we lose by using InTune instead of SCCM ?

 

2. Does the SAM Module fully function using ServiceNow Discovery or has there always been a dependency on SCCM to deliver elements ?

 

3. Does anyone use anything other than SCCM to benefit fully from the SAM Module.

  • Lost Functionality with InTune Instead of SCCM:

  • Dependency on SCCM for SAM Module Functionality:

    • ServiceNow SAM Module can use ServiceNow Discovery independently of SCCM, but SCCM offers deep integration benefits for managing Windows environments.
  • Alternatives to SCCM for SAM Module:

    • Besides SCCM, organizations can use ServiceNow Discovery, other third-party tools, or hybrid approaches to effectively manage software assets within ServiceNow, based on specific needs and tool capabilities.

Hi Ian, I hope everything is going well with the above. We're in the same position of looking to retire SCCM and replace any lost functionality with Intune. Did you ever manage to replace the software metering capability? From my research it seems like a custom solution would be the only way of replacing this. Is there anything else you've found that has lost functionality? 

Hi Tom. ServiceNow advised the metering and some of the other SAM Functionalities that won't work with InTune are provided by the Agent Client Collector so we are trying to test this now. Fortunately we already had enough licences (or near enough) to cover this deployment.
