Oracle License entitlements and reconciliation questions

Hello,

I have a few questions on Oracle entitlements and reconciliation. I have taken the SAM-P course but it didn't really have detailed hands on for each of the publisher packs and examples if issues.

  1. Will named users pull from oracle instances so you know how many are connecting for named user plus licensing? If not, do you add what you see in oracle in the client access area for each model?
  2. As your doing a reconciliation for Oracle can you have incorrect compliance if you server relationships are incorrect that oracle DB server software is? This is really a questions overall. Incorrect relationships in CMDB for server can give false reconciliation results?
  3. Does anyone have a walk through for adding Oracle license and options the correct way. Tip and tricks.

Thanks,

Len Williams

1) . SAM-Pro supports Oracle <Named User Plus> and <Per Processor> license metrics.

Client Access Records are created to track the total # of users.

2) .  Yes, CMDB needs to be correct including host/guest relationships or the compliance numbers will be off.

3) . Not really and yes it is tricky.

Here is an example of what a SW Entitlement for a Oracle Option/Pack looks like.

Note that it goes through a <Per Processor> calculation.   These Options/Packs are pricey!

Hope this helps!

Hello, This is another piece Im having issues with. I have no options data in London for Oracle. Any thoughts on why this is happening even though im getting only Database Instances-> Oracle( in red). Catalogs and servers do not show up at this time either.

For options can you check the oracle options table: samp_oracle_options.list

For Oracle database catalog discovery (new york), see notes here. For Oracle database discovery (new york), see notes here. Please cross post on the discovery forum as well.

Thank you . Right now discovery is not discovering options. What I need is some troubleshooting on this please.
