Hello team!
We are in the process of implementing software asset management for our customer. We have procured SAM pro license. However, I come to know that to discover the foundational data, we do require discovery in place to get the real time data. On the other hand, I do see service graph connector for SCCM which will also be the same process to discover the software from the data center. Again, it is free. Could you please confirm is it really required to have discovery in place? we do not have discovery license. So, in what other way, we can get real time data center discovery updates so SAM pro will be implemented successfully.
Thank you very much in advance!

It depends on various factors for example, for which publishers you are implementing SAM Pro module, how you are planning to bring the software installation or usage data to ServiceNow and compare with your entitlement as part of reconciliation.
It is not mandatory to have ServiceNow Discovery but it would make your life easier if you have it since it can manage all the data & process out of box and you do not need to integrate with third-party sources and normalize the data.
If you have all the software installation data in-scope for SAM as part of SCCM, it would work as well. Refer below article that can help to understand the process at high level,

Thank you everyone for the responses. I do agree it is not strictly required. However, our customers mostly open the application through web browser, and we need to calculate the usage from there as well. How we can achieve it. We are looking for the publishers
Microsoft
Adobe
Oracle
SAP
IBM
VMware
Dassault Systems
AutoCAD.
If you can share the document for integration steps for these, it would be really appreciated.
Thank you,
Shilpa

Hi @Shilpa451,
for browser checking at all you can use the ACC-V and DEX - DEX Architecture
For Microsoft and Adobe you can integrate the SaaS portals to get usage based on the last login. SAP supports products with "Digital Access" an integration is also available - Software Asset Management publisher pack for SAP
For any other you can try to the SAM Custom SaaS integration or import usage manually
Best, Dennis
