Sam implementation required servicenow discovery?

Hello team!

We are in the process of implementing software asset management for our customer. We have procured SAM pro license. However, I come to know that to discover the foundational data, we do require discovery in place to get the real time data. On the other hand, I do see service graph connector for SCCM which will also be the same process to discover the software from the data center. Again, it is free. Could you please confirm is it really required to have discovery in place? we do not have discovery license. So, in what other way, we can get real time data center discovery updates so SAM pro will be implemented successfully.
Thank you very much in advance!

Hi @Shilpa451 ,

for client devices you are fine with SCCM. Server coverage on a high level (hardware, software) is also fine with SCCM, but for server software like databases (SQL, Oracle) you need discovery to get all the SAM relevant details (edition, etc) its recommend to use Discovery.

Best, Dennis

You don’t strictly need Discovery if you’re using Service Graph Connectors like SCCM, but Discovery definitely adds depth and real-time accuracy. Without it, you’ll rely on whatever your source system provides. It comes down to how complete and up-to-date you need your SAM data to be.
