Seeking Insights on SAM Management Time Commitment

Hi everyone,

I am new to SAM and am trying to understand the time investment required to effectively maintain and expand this module to achieve its full return on investment

Could anyone provide insights into the typical time commitment for a SAM Manager or SAM Administrator responsible for tracking and optimizing approximately 150-200 applications? This would be a combination of SaaS and locally installed apps. Is this generally a full-time role requiring around 40 hours per week?

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi @iamsbm,

definitely for the first ~3 months and from my experience for both roles - license manager and SAM (tool) administrator. Due to the platform concept, many dependencies arise on other teams (Discovery, Foundationdata,...) that require a lot of coordination and can unfortunately also delay the project, e.g. if Server Discovery does not provide complete data. With the number of products mentioned, the effort required to prepare the entitlements, including historical data if necessary, should not be underestimated either. The connection of external (possibly custom) data sources to obtain consumption data for all products is also one of the time-consuming tasks.

All the best for your SAMP project! Best, Dennis
