software instance and software installation

can we use both software instance and software installation tables even after SAM plugin activation. will the applications/integrations work   on software instance even when SAM is activated ?

Do you have the SAM Professional PlugIn installed ? Software Asset Management Professional PlugIn will use only Software Installation table [cmdb_sam_sw_install]. Normalization and Reconciliation workflows are based on software installation table.

Software instance table is a legacy table. It used to have same data as you are seeing in software installation table. I think this got changed in Berlin/Calgary release. I remember that earlier discovery, sccm integrations and asset software counter were using this table to get the details. But all this changed to software installation table.


Now discovery , SCCM integartion and Software counter use the software installation table to dump the related data.



You can use the software instance table for other purpose but i will suggest not   to use that. Instead create a separate table expended from CMDB or use another CMDB table.


I know that there is on nexpose integration plugin in store that uses software instance table to dump the software installation data.They should use the software installation table. So my point is in future if you are installing any custom solution from store they may have use that table for their solution.


Now it depends on your requirement to use that table or not.
