SoftwareModel with Any version and Edition

Hi

I have created number of software models with 'Any' version and Edition based on the entitlement which covers all versions or editions of s particular product. All these models have multiple lifecycle data for the product. APM and SAM Pro works together in terms of highlighting the lifecycle risks associated with Business service\Applications. From APM perspective, when you create software model with 'Any' version and edition, how will it display the risk with respect to lifecycles as your software model will have multiple lifecycle values. So there has to be standard approach in terms of creating a software model. Can someone please guide me on the recommended approach to create a software model ?

Thanks

Hi @Community Alums

the description of your findings is correct, the more generic the software model is set up, the more lifecycle data it includes, as the coverage is larger. I currently have the same challenge as you - how to setup software models that are usable for SAM and TPM.

Currently, we have found the following consensus as a first viable approach:

  • From SAM's point of view: All software models are mapped in the level of detail required for the license balance. Important - the "License under Management" flag must be activated.
  • From APM's point of view: All software models are mapped in the level of detail Major.Minor Version or according to their use in the company. Important - the "License under Management" flag is inactive for all models not covered by SAM. Not SAM covered models will not appear in SAM Workspace Compliance list

APM requires unique lifecycle data for each software model full version added to the application service. If more than one lifecycle from a different version is assigned to you model, the risk is shown as "Not assessed".

(Example: added "Microsoft Virtual PC Windows" as generic model to TPM and it can't be assessed (grey dot)"

I am looking forward to more suggestions by community.

yes but the software model is requited to be mapped to a specific edition and it doesn't matter if its any version because you are mentioning the full version info in the app service ,this works in TPM.Have you come across any best practices doc from servicenow ?

Hi, I mean: a unique software model with details about Major.Minor version if available, to be mapped to a single lifecycle dataset.

Would recommend searching NowLearning for more details about TPM, APM.
