One use case of HAM-P would be tracking lifecycle information. That is if the intent is to also implement Application Portfolio Management (APM).
In APM, the 'Application Services' are expanded beyond what is setup via the Common Service Data Model (CSDM) to include associating both the hardware models and software models with the 'Application Service' which in turn the Business Service Offering or Technical Service Offering depends on and which is consumed by the Business Application.
Within APMs Technology Portfolio there are two related lists (Software Models / Hardware Models). You associated the specific models to the 'Application Service' and those show up including there lifecycle details via APMs 'Technology Portfolio'.
