Hi Team,
My manager wants me to add all the assets in the ServiceNow and i am doing so.
My question is what assets will tracked by asset Manager and what classes should be included in ServiceNow.
I have included Computer Class ( laptops/Desktop)
Server( Physical Servers- do we need to track Virtual servers also as asset Manager?)
Storage servers ( Physical Servers- do we need to track Virtual servers also as asset Manager?)
Printers, UPSdevices I am tracking.
Backup Servers ( Physical Servers- do we need to track Virtual servers also as asset Manager?)
Do I need to track Esxi Servers as an asset Manager ?
Network devices like ( switch, router, Wireless Access points i am sure i should track these.)
Can I have a list of other assets which as Asset Manager we should track.
Thanks.

Hi Deepak,
Its difficult to comment what Asset classes as a asset manager you should track. As it depends on organization to organization and the scope of the assets classes in your infrastructure.
In ServiceNow, The default asset classes are Hardware, Software License, and Consumable. These general classes can be used to manage various assets.
If the general classes that are provided aren't appropriate for a specific group of assets, consider creating a new asset class.
To create an asset class, Please visit this link
Please Mark ✅ Correct/helpful, if applicable, Thanks!!

Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) describes IT Asset Management (ITAM) as “all of the infrastructure and processes necessary for the effective management, control and protection of the hardware & software IT assets within an organization, throughout all stages of their lifecycle.”
As you look to define the scope of what devices are tracked. Consider anything that runs software, anything that finance calculates depreciation on, anything you want to maintain an inventory of, anything that you lease, anything that needs additional stewardship/documentation at asset disposal time.
The answer for virtual servers is different for every asset manager, most often the answer is no. What flips the answer to a yes is detailed end of life required process that look very similar to a physical device. But virtual devices are needed with the CMDB to allow Software Asset Management and calculation of core based licensed that map up to the physical devices supporting the virtual infrastructure.

Thank you Very much. That cleared my perception of ITAM and CMDB.
