What are relationships between the fields License type, Metric group, and License metric on Entitlement form?

The OOTB form for Entitlements has a License type of "Subscription". Additionally, the Metric group field has a option of "Subscription" and the License metric field has an option of "User Subscription". Can I have a License type of Subscription and use Common or Custom as the Metric group?
