Where do you track free software?

I am relatively new to SN and working to understand what all the different modules are intended to do, how they are populated, and how they interact.

I believe—and please correct me if I am wrong—that the Business Application (cmdb_ci_business_app) table is manually populated and SAM Pro creates Software models (cmdb_software_product_model) by (1) Discovery model (installation is found) and (2) it is a licensable product.

My organization is working to do a big application rationalization program / clean the environment of garbage: this properly belongs to APM, but we don't have APM, we have SAM Pro.

We have never used the BA table, but I understand that is not intended to track versions.  In an effort to align to best practice, I manually created a spreadsheet via Contracts, Entitlements, and Software Models (not realising until now that Software Models are not created unless the title is Licensable).  When they decided they wanted versions as well, I went back over the list via Installations (cmdb_sam_sw_install) and discovered free products which had not made it unto my list.

So my question is: where are we supposed to track free products, e.g. Greenshot, Google Earth?  Did we put little bits and bops like this into the BA table or should the BA table contain things of more architectural significance?   And/or is there a way to track this in SAM Pro?

Hi,  You can try with 'samp_custom_sw_product_list.do' table to store the free softwares.

Thanks for the idea, but we are looking for somewhere with more details than the Product List table allows.
