Hello Experts,
I am working on Window Server Licensing in SAMPro and facing a few challenges. I have accurately uploaded the Core Infrastructure Server Suite licenses but license position report do not show any consumption of these licenses.
Also I checked the Discovery Models but no discovery model is created for the Windows Servers although ServiceNow discovery is able to inventory the Windows Servers and they are listed in Computer table (cmdb_ci_computers). I am not sure what am I missing. Kindly help also is there a whitepaper for Windows Server licensing in SAMPro?
Also, Per Core (with CAL) license metric is little confusing, it would be great if you could elaborate with use-case.
Thank you,
Parul

Parul: The software model you are using is the Suite; so no specific discovery model may match that software model. However, the components of that suite would match the discovery model and the reconciliation process would recognize your allocation and software entitlement to the suite model.
Also, I have attached a white paper for windows server licensing for SAM Pro.
Hope that helps.

Hi Akash,
Thank you for sharing the whitepaper, this is very helpful.
My entitlements are enabled, the CIS suite has windows server and system center as components and these components have downgrade paths set, the metric attributes are also representing correct number of min cores per proc and server, everything looks good in term of enablement except the property. I am trying to find this specific system property - "Windows Server Cluster optimization" in system properties module and enable it but not able to find it. Can you share more details on it, and could this be the reason why windows servers licenses are not being calculated at-all ? I believe this is for license optimization but system should still calculate something even if this property is not enabled?
Thank you,

Parul: Here is the SN Doc info on that property: https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/sandiego-it-asset-management/page/product/software-asset-management2/concept/windows-cluster-optimization.html
If you go into each suite component...for those models do you see discovery models and installations associated? Because everything that you have shared as "looking good" is on the software model and entitlement side; but I just want to make sure the discovery side looks correct as well.
Thanks,
Akash

Hi - I am not sure if you have resolved the issue but we faced something similar recently - what I found to help was in the software model the inference percent of the suite defaults to 75% meaning that it would only count Windows server if it was found with System Center. I modified the inference percent for ours to 50% so that even if System Center was not on, it would still count the Windows against the entitlement.
