AI Search Assist widget search results not updating when search text changes

I am having some issues with the AI Search Assist widget, which I have associated with the "Short Description" field on a record producer. The first time I start entering text in the field, the results are populated as expected, it's working well. However, if I change the search text, backspace and enter something else, the results section clears out but never re-populates. I verified and made sure that the text I entered after clearing the field out would match some of the search sources, but nothing appears after the initial search.

Is there some configuration setting or something else I missed? Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.
