catalog is blank - no categories

I have a number of items which are in categories, those categories are part of the service catalog.

However when I try to view the catalog I cannot see the active categories

I can from this screen search for any of the items and it finds them but for some reason the category will not display - has anyone seen this before.

Ok -= managed to find how to add on the category - cannot however see a new Category I have created   - suspect that this may be permissions

I just ran into this after a clone from Production over Dev and Test.   Simply adding the categories to the homepage (top level, in our case, without a Parent Category) did the trick.   (+ button)
