KCS status for knowledge articles.

We are using KCS state for knowledge articles, but this is a customization. Does anyone use any out of the box functionality that meets the requirements for KCS status?

Actually I have just started a discussion with two developers about an idea. The idea is about a function similar to attach which "flags" the article as not validated or validated.
