I am creating templates for knowledge articles. I set the field type to 'String' and saved the template. I now want to change the Field Type to be 'HTML', however the field is greyed out and I am not able to change it. I also tried to see if I could find a way to delete the template itself and start over but I cannot even find a delete anywhere to do that either. Would anyone know how to change a template's field type and also how to delete a template? I would really hate to have messed up templates I cannot use in the just sitting there not active just because I cannot delete them or edit that field. Thank you.

When you create a field within a template, it actually creates a new field (there is a new table per template). So it's not possible to change the type once the field is created. While editing a template, in the related list for the fields- each row has an "Active" flag, that can be used to not show that field to the end users.
If you want the field to be removed, you should be able to do that directly on the relevant table for that template.
