On-premise Knowledge management

Hi all,

 

Has anyone had experience integrating Knowledge bases/knowledge management with on-premise data? These would be shared drives with tons of data in various formats (powerpoints, word docs, PDFs etc) that customers want to be able to query with free text search or Boolean logic. 

How would you propose a solution to integrate the instance (self-hosted) with these shared drives, import data sets into our tables, and build the proper queries and search functionality in Knowledge management to facilitate the workflow process?
