Remote Update set

If click on some customization record in Update Set, there is a field Remote Update Set.
I want to know the proper use of this feature.

That field is automatically populated by the system when you retrieve updates from another system so you'll never have to set it or modify it. Any given update in your system can be associated with an update set, or a remote update set. The remote update set is the update set brought over from a remote system when retrieving updates, after that update is committed to a system, a copy is associated with a regular update set.

i have some confusions like
1) I have not retrieved update set from other system just made a fresh update set and done some customizations, when i check recorded customization, there is this remote update set field.
T) remote system refers to different instance or what?And how this remote update set button can be used.
3) for better understanding just provide some scenerio so that the concept of remote update set can be understood.
