Reusing variables

I have a questions. Can custom variables be reused in variable sets? what about without variable sets? If so, are there any pros or cons to this?

I have faced this issue. you will get conflict in UI policies if you are using same variable name.. you need to change the variable name for correct function...

Other way is you can put variable in variable set and create a catalog UI policy which applies to that variable set.
