Benefits or why to assign tasks to groups

I can list the following benefits:

  1. Delegation Propose - if You are on vacation, other group member can work on tasks assigned to same group as well as any approval required.
  2. Groups may perform tasks such as approving change requests, resolving incidents, receiving email notifications, or performing work order tasks. Any business rules, assignment rules, system roles, or attributes that refer to the group apply to all group members automatically.
  3. Tasks access -best practice to grant tasks access through group, all group member will be granted the access from their group.
  4.  Share Responsibility - since all group member are granted same roles from a group, any member can perform required activities if other members are no available.

Please let me if you need any additional information.

Hi,

A Group normally represents a team, eg Service Desk, Windows Support etc.

You'll have multiple teams in your organization. When a ticket is raised in your organization, normally it gets assigned to Service desk. ServiceNow engineers knows that one of them has to assign it to themselves and work on it only if it is assigned to their group.

If they want to assign to another team (eg Windows team) they assign to Windows team Assignment group. Widows team knows that they need to work on it only after it is assigned to their group. ServiceNow triggers notification when it is assigned to the Group.

In addition to assignment, group is also used for assigning roles.

Thank you,

Palani
