VMWare integration

Does anyone have ideas/experience on integrating VMware with SN to populate the CMDB. Discovery and Orchestration are not options at the moment. Are APIs available that we can leverage? Also, what are your thoughts on using the old school excel spreadsheets/transform maps for CI import?

Hi Vijay,

I encourage you to consider Orchestration and Cloud Discovery to manage your cloud infrastructure. It certainly makes the process more reliable (less human interaction) and up to date. Many customers find this a very valuable bit of software.

I also invite you to have a discussion with your sales team about licensing if you are considering doing the integration via workflow. This could be an orchestration license if you are not careful.

Yes, you could do Excel import. That's going to require some construction on your part and someone to keep those spreadsheets up to date.

The issue is the client is opposed to the idea of Discovery or orchestration because of the extra costs involved. would you recommend a REST/SOAP instead as an alternative?

If you have the time/money to invest in researching the VMWare API, then I would go with REST if it's available. I haven't dug that far in to VMware to know what it supports.

I have the exact same question.

We want to populate our CMDB with the hosts in VMWare. We are looking into using the REST API. We can't use the Cloud Orchestration because of the cost.

Have you found any information on how to do this?
